New Year's in KY

We wanted to squeeze in a trip down to KY during the holidays and before the next little one comes and travel gets a little tricky again. So we headed down on Sunday, Candler worked from Aunt Judy's house on Monday, and then we drove home on New Year's day. It was a short, but fun filled trip. Sav loved checking out all of Aunt Judy's toys and stuffed animals. She had a large horse stuffed animal complete with reins and when you pressed his ears he made noises = big hit.

Sunday evening the other side of the Eve family came over (Uncle Mark, Aunt Shawn, Uncle Paul, and we lucked out that two of Candler's cousins, Jocelyn and Rebecca, were still in town for the holidays) for a family dinner. Sav was a little shy but enjoyed playing on the floor with Uncle Mark and showing him the shell collection Aunt Judy was letting her play with. She seems to warm up much quicker when people get on her level and talk to her so big thanks to Uncle Mark! It was great to be able to chat with everyone as it gets trickier and trickier to see the extended family as everyone lives in different states.

On Monday while Candler was working Sav and I went on an adventure with Aunt Judy. When I told Sav this is what we were going to do Aunt Judy gave me a funny look and asked what I had planned. I told her that anything is an adventure to Sav so we didn't have to do anything too big, just make it fun for her. So our adventure was going to Kroger, letting Sav ride in one of the carts that has a car on the front of it (terrible to steer!), and picking up supplies for that evenings New Year's Eve feast. Sav was thrilled and loved driving the car.

Then we picked up Candler and headed to St. Matthew's square for some awesome seafood from Seafood Connection. Seriously yummy fish tacos and then we picked up some Salmon to grill for dinner that night. Wish they had a location near home for us to eat at. Once again thanks to Uncle Mark for the great lunch suggestion. It's not fancy, just a small set up with tables and a counter to order at, but the food is over the top and they had birch beer (kinda a cherry cola) on tap. Yum!

Sav decided life was too exciting to nap so after attempting to have her rest in her room I let her go play with Aunt Judy while I took a nap. Aunt Judy had her help dip strawberries in chocolate and the ring of chocolate around her mouth told me that she was enjoying herself :-) Sav also loved knowing where puppy Bonnie was (not that she moves or does much) but she enjoyed having a live pet nearby.

After Candler was all done working we got started prepping for dinner. The weather was a bit dicey so it ended up being us with just Aunt Judy's friends Pat and Vernon. Sav warmed right up to them (could have been the presents they brought for her) or them just carrying on and getting comfy at Aunt Judy's house that put her at ease. She also liked playing with their dog Repo. We had some dinner and then put Sav to bed. Then we played a new game to me where you work with a partner to get 5 cards in a line...I can't remember the name, but I do remember that Pat and I beat Candler and Vernon :-)

We retired early because regardless when you go to bed the new year still comes. Then Tuesday morning we got up and hit the road. We stopped by IKEA on our way home and picked up a new bookshelf for Sav's room along with a new shelf for Candler's bathroom. Then we got home and crashed. Wheh! Traveling wears me out!
